슈만의 관현악곡 시리즈의 마지막 발매반으로, 초기 미완의 교향곡 <츠비카우>와 후기 서곡들을 수록하고 있다. 1833년에 2악장까지만 작곡된 교향곡은, 슈만 고향의 지명을 따라 ‘츠비카우 교향곡’으로 불리운다.
본 녹음의 1악장은 ‘라이프치히 원고’로 연주하고 있다. 서곡들은 1847년 이후에 쓰여진 것으로 교향곡에서 볼 수 없던 관현악의 표현을 보여준다.
오페라, 오라토리오의 도입을 위한 목적으로 쓰여진 것들이지만, 자유스러운 형식과 표현으로, 슈만의 시적 낭만성이 담긴 멋진 작품들이다.
슈만의 음악적 사고와 스타일의 위대한 문학적 중요성을 전해주는 소중한 작품이다.
