  • 1957년 6월 20일 런던 코벤트 가든 오페라 극장에서 열렸던 베를리오즈의 그랜드 오페라 <트로이 사람들>의 기념비적인 공연을 담은 음반이다. 작품이 실제로 무대에서 상연될 수 있을까 하는 오랜 회의적인 시각을 일소하고 공전의 성공을 거둔 이 공연에서 아에네아스 역을 맡은 젊은 테너 존 비커스를 정점으로 한 화려한 가수진은 혼신의 힘을 다한 열창을 들려주며, 극장 전체에 감도는 뜨거운 분위기는 강렬한 인상을 준다. 이 공연에 자극받은 베를리오즈 에디션 신판이 나오기 전이라 악보에 다소 삭제가 있고 가사도 영어로 부르지만, 로저 노링턴과 존 엘리어트 가디너에 이르는 후배들의 <트로이 사람들>이 있게 한 원조라는 점에서 영원히 사라지지 않을 명연이다.
