  • When Byron Janis appeared in recital anywhere in the world, Pictures at an Exhibition was apt to be the high point of his program.
  • He included Pictures in his Paris debut recital and he performed the work extensively on both his tours of Russia in the early sixties.
  • When he finally recorded this great work for Mercury Living Presence in 1961, the recording was put on hold to expedite the program of concerto recordings which helped to create Janis' legendary status as one of the premiere pianists of our time.
  • Antal Dorati and the Minneapolis Symphony provide the perfect coupling for the Janis Pictures with their brilliant performance of Ravel's orchestration of the same work.
