곡의 규모와 연주상의 어려움 때문에 그다지 무대에 자주 올려지지는 않는 편이지만, 오페라의 오라토리오를 섞어놓은 것 같이 극적인 성격이 강한 작품 특유의 분위가가 매우 높은 연주효과를 보여주는 베를리오즈의 대표적인 성악 제품.
이제는 완연히 베테랑의 관록을 보이는 베이스 바리톤 윌리드 화이트와 최근 모짜르트와 롯시니의 히로인으로 많은 주목을 받고 잇는 불가리아 출신의 메조 소프라노 베셀리나 카사로바의 모습과 함께, 무엇보다도 원통형의 거대한 멀티 스크린을 비롯하여 잘츠브르크 축제극장의 넓은 무대 위에서 매우 현대적인 감각으로 연출된 다이나믹한 무대의 전경이 눈길을 끈다.
