[ 런던 필하모닉 오케스트라, LPO ]

런던 필하모닉 오케스트라는 세계 최고의 오케스트라 중 하나로 인정받고 있는 정상급 단체로, 20세기 최고의 지휘자 중 한 사람인 토마스 비첨 경에 의해 1932년에 설립되었다. 그 후 아드리안 불트 경과 버르나르트 하이팅크, 게오르크 숄티 경, 클라우스 텐슈테트, 쿠르트 마주어 등 세계적인 정상급 지휘자들이 거쳐갔으며, 2007년에 젊은 지휘자 유롭스키를 영입하여 새로운 변신에 도전하고 있다. 런던 필하모닉 오케스트라는 전 세계에 열광적인 음악팬을 보유하고 있는데, 1956년에 영국의 관현악단으로서 최초로 소련의 무대에서 연주했으며, 1973년에 서양 관현악단으로서는 최초로 중국을 방문했다.

최근 2010/11 시즌에서는 핀란드, 독일, 프랑스,벨기에, 룩셈부르크 등의 유럽을 거쳐 아시아권인 한국에도 방문하여 멋진 공연을 펼쳤다. 런던 필하모닉 오케스트라는 클래식에서 현대음악까지 방대한 음악 레파토리를 자랑하는데, 아카데미 음악상을 수상하고 해외 방송투표 역대 최고의 영화음악으로 꼽히기도 했던 영화 '반지의 제왕'과 엔니오 모리코네의 아름다운 멜로디로 유명한 Mission 등 다수의 영화타이틀에 참여했으며, 최근에는 비디오 게임 음악까지 그 영역을 넓혀가고 있는 대중성과 예술성을 동시에 잡은 수준높은 오케스트라이다.
